The Power of Belief

Belief is a powerful force.

When you believe, you can achieve anything. Great inventions happen through belief. Inventors always believed that what they were doing was going to work. Although overcome by failure after failure, they kept going. Success in the legal profession does not stem from the belief that something can work; it is a belief that something must work!

Belief is the core fundamental upon which great things are made possible. Faith and belief are different from each other. Faith is a state of mind that does not require any rationale. Belief, on the other hand, stems out of conviction. Essentially it is a feeling of trust in the ability of something or someone.

Belief is a state of mind, which one enters when you have gone past the questioning and analytical stage, and are headed towards application and practice.

A short story on the power of belief
A businessman was deep in debt and struggling to find a way out. Creditors were demanding payments. Things were looking challenging. He sat in the park, deep in thought, wondering if anything could save him from bankruptcy.

Suddenly an aged man appeared before him and said, “I can see that something is troubling you. Perhaps talking about it would cheer you”. The businessman looked up at him. The aged man seemed honest enough. He decided it would be therapeutic to unburden himself, even if everything seemed so hopeless. He poured out his worries. After listening, the aged man said, “I believe I can help you.”

He asked the man his name, wrote out a cheque, and put it into his hands, and said, “Take this money, meet me here exactly two years from today… and you can pay me back at that time”.
The businessman saw in his hands a cheque for $ 500,000 signed by John D. Rockefeller, then one of the richest men in the world!

With renewed optimism, he restructured his business, negotiated better deals, and extended terms of payment. He also managed to close several big sales. Within few months, he was out of debt and making money once again.

Exactly two years later, he returned to the park with the uncashed cheque. As agreed, the aged man appeared. But just as the businessman was about to hand back the cheque and share his success story, a nurse came running up and grabbed the aged man. “I hope he hasn’t been bothering you!” she cried. ” He’s always escaping from the rest home and telling people he’s John D. Rockefeller.”

The astonished businessman stood there, stunned. The past years he has been working hard, convinced he had half a million dollars behind him!

“Belief moves mountains.”

It is not the money that turns life around. It is our belief that gives us the power to achieve anything.

Belief will move you out of the comfort zone.

Belief does not build overnight. It takes time and effort to arrive at it. But once you gain the belief, it will stay with you for a long time.
